Why Short Video is #2 on My 2026 Marketing Priority List (And How I Tested It on TikTok)

By Elizabeth Gearhart, Ph.D.
2026 Marketing Energy Allocation Table showing Short Video as priority #2

As the CMO of Gearhart Law, I recently went on a mission to identify where our team should focus our energy. After deep-diving into the marketing landscape of early 2026, I narrowed it down to the top five high-impact activities.

Coming in at a strong #2: Short-Form Video.

Naturally, my next mission was convincing our attorneys to get in front of the camera. Our CEO gave me a challenge: "Provide a gold-standard example of exactly what you want." Challenge accepted.

The Experiment: TikTok & AI Collaboration

With the help of my human assistant and Gemini, I took the plunge into TikTok. I even found a filter that—thank goodness—makes me look fantastic.

To get started, I asked Gemini: "What questions are people asking about marketing right now?"

The answer: "How do I show up in AI search results?"

I hit record. In under three minutes, I:

  • Asked the big question.
  • Dropped three actionable tips.
  • Added a call-to-action to check out our podcasts, Passage to Profit and Real AI Use Cases.

I left the "polishing"—subtitles, links, and effects—to our human assistant, who posted it directly to our Passage to Profit TikTok account. It was fast, authentic, and effective.

Why Short Video? (The 2026 Strategy)

If you're wondering why we are pivoting so hard toward video and podcasts, take a look at our current priority table:

RankActivityCore Value PropWhy it Wins in 2026
1Strategic PartnershipsBorrowed TrustA "warm handoff" bypasses the "bot filter" of skeptical prospects.
2Podcasting & Short VideoProof of HumanityVideo is the hardest format for AI to fake convincingly; it proves your expertise.
3AEO/GEO (Answer Engines)High-Intent CaptureCaptures users on platforms like Perplexity or Gemini at the "need it now" stage.
4Micro-CommunitiesOwned RelationshipMoves audiences to private spaces (Discord/Slack) to build a "moat."
5AI "Utility" ToolsValue-First LeadsInteractive tools provide more immediate value than an old-school ebook.

Curious about #5? What exactly is a "vibe-coded micro-tool"? I'll be breaking that down in tomorrow's post. Stay tuned!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why is "Proof of Humanity" so important for law firms in 2026?

As AI-generated content saturates the web, clients are becoming skeptical of written text. They want to see your face and hear your voice to ensure they are hiring a real person with genuine expertise, not a "law-bot."

Q: Three minutes seems long for TikTok. Is that the standard now?

While 15-60 seconds is great for "hooks," 2026 audiences are leaning into slightly longer, high-value "educational" shorts. A 3-minute video allows you to establish authority while remaining punchy enough for mobile consumption.

Q: Do I need professional lighting and a studio?

Not necessarily! As I found with my TikTok experiment, a simple ring light and the right filter can do wonders. Authenticity often performs better than overly polished, corporate-style productions.

Q: What is AEO/GEO?

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization (and GEO for Generative Engine Optimization). It's the new SEO. Instead of just ranking on Google, we are optimizing our content so AI assistants like Gemini or Perplexity cite Gearhart Law as the definitive answer to legal questions.
